The state-of-the-art Victoria Central Health Centre in Wallasey has been designed around the needs of patients and staff, helping to improve communication and enhance service provision, while balancing the needs of multiple occupiers.
Serving 75,000 patients and located on the Victoria Central Hospital site, the centre brings together an extended range of services – a number of which were previously accommodated in a series of old and disparate buildings. In addition to podiatry, physiotherapy, audiology and speech therapy, these include specialist cardiac services, child health clinics, X-Ray and minor surgery.
Having to address a complex and confined mix of properties and access routes, Prime took a phased approach to the build. This ensured minimal disruption to the practices and also the existing services on the hospital site, including one of the country’s busiest 24 hour walk-in centres.
Designed to fit into the busy site environment, while ensuring prominence for visitors, the landmark three storey building has a semi-circular atrium for ease of legibility. Four wings fan out from the central atrium, with GP facilities located on the ground floor to ensure good accessibility. The result is a much improved environment for patients and staff that is more welcoming, easy to navigate and offers flexibility for service development.
It’s a lovely building – beautiful and light. There’s just no comparison with the building we came from. People walk in and say ‘Wow – it’s just like a hotel!”
