Opened in 2002, Throckley Primary Care Centre delivers essential healthcare services in the heart of the community.
As the needs of patients and staff have evolved, the centre has been refurbished to deliver increased space and ensure maximum flexibility for the future.
Having secured funding from the Deanery, an extension has been added to provide two new consulting rooms, allowing the practice to use additional GP registrars. More recently the interior has been refreshed, offering the practice a practical and affordable premises solution. Prime and its architects, One Creative Environments Ltd, have redesigned the reception area and the centre’s open plan administration office to optimise the space available and improve patient confidentiality.
With the administration office originally fitted with perimeter desking and a records store that blocked natural light, a design has been created that brings the staff together, making their desks central to the room. Not only does this create a more collaborative working environment but in reconfiguring the space, natural light levels have been vastly improved. The addition of a part-glazed fixed screen and door between the office and reception ensures privacy and patient confidentiality is maintained, while still allowing the reception to be manned at all times.
We’ve really pleased with the results. The centre feels much more welcoming, which is important to help put patients at ease and rather than having a clinical feel, the space is vibrant and uplifting.”
