Located in the heart of the West Midlands, the Lyng Centre for Health and Social Care is not only an example of the best in flexible, modern healthcare facilities but has acted as a catalyst for regeneration and investment. But after six years of use, the interior was in need of a refresh and, with the approval and enthusiasm of Sandwell PCT and Sandwell Borough Council, Prime and their designers One Creative Environments Ltd were brought on board to produce a quick and affordable way of updating the building’s core common areas with a new decorative design without disrupting the day-to-day running of the building.
The team began work on a new coastal theme, with a view to creating a calmer and more tranquil space in busy communal areas. A lot of the building already featured a dark blue theme that the team wanted to keep, while softening it in the waiting areas created a more relaxed and calming environment. This naturally led to the idea of a coastal and beach theme, so as well as refreshing the paintwork in the centre, various coastal images bring this to life and have added a new dimension to the centre.
The response to the new space has been wonderful. Patients have commented on how fresh and clean the centre looks and how the waiting areas are different from any other clinical environment and much more welcoming. It’s amazing how such a small change can make such a difference. We couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome.”
