Stanford Medical Centre, Highcroft Villas Medical Centre and Beaconsfield Surgery shared a common problem – they were all operating out of converted Victorian properties in Brighton that had become increasingly unsuitable for delivering modern primary care.

Determined to find a permanent solution, the practices researched the options for obtaining a new building. A suitable site had to be located and this presented a tough challenge. Land was at a premium in Brighton and local demand in the city was soaring. Struggling to find a plot of land that offered suitable space, had good transport links, enough room for parking and was affordable, Prime began to look at an alternative approach – the possibility of refurbishing an existing building, which is when they found an office building located in a prominent position overlooking a park. Situated on a major arterial route linking the central and northern areas of Brighton and well served by buses, the location allows easy access for patients.

With six floors, the building has room for all the practices and further space available for use by the PCT and other service providers. Dedicated parking and access for wheelchair users is another major advantage.

The new centre provides a delightful working environment. The atmosphere is lovely. In the old building it was fraught but now the feeling has completely changed.”
