Norton Medical Centre
The original practice was a series of linked Victorian houses, which were no longer suitable for the needs of the practice or their patients. As the only practice in the area, any new premises for Norton Medical Centre needed to be centrally located, which is why the chosen site was close to the town centre and adjacent to a supermarket. However the sloped access presented a design challenge that translated into a building design with three levels – lower ground, ground and first floors. The building also used clever foundations to cope with the nature of the site, with the resulting development incorporating a pharmacy and a number of primary care and community services including a minor surgery facility.
