Before its development, Montrose was served by three separate general practices and 14 GPs with a combined patient population of 16,500.
Patients often had to travel between their GP surgery and the community hospital for diagnostic procedures or to receive treatment.
So when the doors of Scotland’s largest primary care centre opened in September 2003 the local community of Montrose immediately started to benefit from having a range of integrated services available on their doorstep. Apart from GP services, these included a minor injuries unit, outpatients department, physiotherapy, and X-Ray. The building also provides a base for both community nurses and social services, easing communication and helping with the organisation of care packages.
The centre won ‘Public Building of the Year’ at the Building & Engineer Magazine Awards in 2004.
Prime was very helpful..... they spoke to both practice managers and GPs from all three practices and organised regular meetings to ensure a complete understanding of our end-requirements.”
