A new primary care centre in Kilcock, County Kildare is one of 14 primary care centres being delivered across Ireland for client the Health Service Executive (HSE) by a consortium comprising Prime, Balfour Beatty and HICL Infrastructure Company Ltd.
The new centre, which is 2,469sqm in size, is home to a wide range of community-based services, such as general practice, dentistry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and public health nursing.
The HSE had successfully taken the project through design and planning before asking Prime to review the plans to ensure best value, innovation, quality and future proofing.
We’ve used our expertise in healthcare design and development to deliver a building that will not only offer high quality care services, but also improve user experience through intuitive wayfinding and patient flow.”
Will Bilbrough, Development Director at Prime
Prime suggested the ground floor be re-configured to improve user orientation, safety and patient flow. It also allowed for additional seating in the GP waiting areas and main children’s play area.
The most impactful recommendation was moving the main staircase, creating a better visual link between the reception, stairs and first floor waiting area. This alteration also improves visibility on the ground floor. The addition of a new skylight in the corridor adds natural light, reducing energy requirements. Prime also worked closely with the building’s facilities management provider, redesigning the staff canteen to gain more useable space.
Prime’s expertise in healthcare design and development has had a positive impact on the new Kilcock Primary Care Centre, which is set to be a real asset to the community.
