Hodge Hill Primary Care Centre
Commissioned by Birmingham and Solihull LIFT on behalf of NHS Birmingham East and North, the Hodge Hill Primary Care Centre brings together a range of healthcare and community services under one roof to enrich community wellbeing in a densely urban area of Birmingham. The overgrown, abandoned site had become one of the area’s only open spaces, so the new development presented a need for strong local engagement. Working closely with the community, a protected oak tree has been kept on site and informs the shape of the building, while the interior design is bright and non-clinical, featuring striking wallflower motifs. Designed to improve patient experience, the centre has been inspired by nature to form a ‘green oasis’ in the city, with a ‘natural’ theme that offers a more welcoming and creative approach to healthcare.
