Attwood Green Health Centre in Birmingham is a £13m development that brings together two GP practices and other primary care services under one roof as part of a major overhaul of healthcare provision in the area.
The 4,500sqm, six-storey development is located in a prominent position along Birmingham’s Bath Row, just metres from the old health centre the GPs had outgrown.
Due to the prominent position on Bath Row, the planning permission for the new site was quite prescriptive. The building had to be built up to the boundaries to fit in with the other properties on the ‘urban boulevard’ and had to be six storeys high to mirror the surrounding landscape.
By working alongside BaS LIFT, Heart of Birmingham Teaching PCT and architects One Creative Environments Ltd – and fully engaging the two GP practices merging at the centre, clinicians from ancillary services and the local community in the planning and design stages – Prime plc has delivered an innovative solution to a restricted brief. The result is a well-loved and well-used building which delivers modern and flexible health care services for the up and coming Attwood Green borough of Birmingham.
