Minister of State Michael Ring has officially marked the start of work on a new 2,500 square metre primary care centre in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland.
The new facility is one of 14 currently being built in the republic for client and sponsoring agency the HSE and delivered by a consortium comprising Prime, Balfour Beatty and HICL Infrastructure Company Limited.
The Westport facility will replace an existing health centre and is set to be operational Spring 2018.
In addition to GP surgeries, the new facility will bring many local healthcare services under one roof including Child Psychology; Chiropody; Community Mental Health; Dietetics; Physiotherapy; Primary Care Counselling; Public Health Nursing; Occupational Therapy; Speech and Language Therapy; HSE Dentistry and other visiting services.
“I was delighted to be in a position to turn the sod today,” Minister Ring stated. “This centre will be a valuable asset to the town of Westport and surrounding areas. I am delighted that the building of this centre has commenced. There are 14 primary care centres being built countrywide, with three being built in Mayo, so this is another good news story for Mayo.”
