On Sunday 1 July a team from Prime cycled in blistering 29˚ heat to raise £1,253 for St Richard’s Hospice, as part of the charity’s 2018 Bikeathon.

St Richard’s Hospice is undertaking an ambitious campaign of fundraising events as it attempts to raise £5.3M to expand and redevelop its existing facility on Wildwood Drive, which neighbours Prime’s Worcester head office.

The charity is very close to the hearts of Prime employees several of whom have benefitted from the care provided to loved ones by the hospice. The Prime team regularly takes part in activities to raise funds for St Richard’s, including Christmas jumper days and bake-sales, but the long-distance cycle race was an opportunity to push abilities to their limits in a bid to raise an even larger sum. The team of 8 cyclists from across the business met regularly in the weeks preceding the race, challenging themselves to complete increasing distances in heatwave conditions as preparation.

On the day of the race itself the Prime team completed the 45-mile course in 3.5 hours. Priding themselves on putting in a team effort they ensured no-one was left behind and came over the finish line together.

Jacey Crowle, a Senior Management Accountant at Prime and bikeathon competitor said, “We’re thrilled to have raised such an impressive amount for the St Richard’s Hospice Build 2020 campaign. For many on the team, the Bikeathon represented a huge personal achievement, it wasn’t an easy ride, but it was a very worthwhile one.”
