A Costa Coffee drive-thru has completed on site of the Adanac Health & Innovation Campus. The campus is a health, research and enterprise hub in the Nursling area of Southampton.
The drive-thru coffee shop has been built on Plot 4 of the campus, adjacent to the Park and Ride. It provides parking space for 31 vehicles, including accessible spaces and a waiting bay.
The Costa will provide at least 15 new jobs and offers those working on campus access to refreshments throughout the day, lessening the need for additional journeys in and out of the campus at breaktimes. It also caters to University Hospital Southampton staff accessing the Park and Ride at the beginning and end of their shifts. As well as operating as a drive-thru for customers on the go, the building offers indoor seating for customer use and outdoor tables.
Commuters, employees based at the campus and local residents will benefit from a food and beverage option within walking distance of their vehicle, workplace or home. The increased footfall from the local community and weekend visitors will provide a boost to the local economy.
To protect and promote planting and arboriculture, tree crates have been installed to allow trees to be planted close to the drive-thru lane, enhancing the opportunity for root growth. A specialist arboriculture consultant was appointed during the construction phase. Tree root protection and porous tarmac were installed under areas of the drive-thru lane to protect the roots of a protected tree on the Campus.
Contractors are now on site for fit-out and the Costa will be open to customers from mid-May 2023.
