Prime is hoping to share in the honours at this year’s Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) West Midlands Awards, following the announcement that the Belong Care Village in Newcastle-under-Lyme has been nominated for two awards.
Completed in April 2018, the Belong Care Village is a £13.5m care with housing scheme which provides a mix of specialist care services, apartments for independent living and community facilities on a former brownfield site in Newcastle-under-Lyme. At the heart of the development stands a Grade II listed building and former nightclub, which was transformed as part of the project into a resource centre for people living with dementia and an inviting place for the community to celebrate its heritage.
Prime worked as an investment and development partner to the not-for-profit care operator Belong, to bring the complex scheme to fruition.
The Belong Care Village has been shortlisted in the Regeneration category, which celebrates schemes which have made exceptional improvements in the local area and the Community Benefit category, which recognises projects that engage the community and improve public access to facilities.
Prime Development Director, Bob Smaylen said: “We are delighted to see the Belong Care Village shortlisted for two RICS awards. It was a challenging project for the development team – managing a complex land assembly, working with a contaminated brownfield site and incorporating the derelict Grade II listed building into the plans – but the end result has exceeded all our expectations and the Belong Care Village has not only transformed a forgotten area of Newcastle-under-Lyme, but it’s also instilled a sense of great pride in the community.
“We’ll be in attendance on the night and will be hoping to secure both awards for this very worthy project.”
The RICS Awards recognise the most innovative projects in the region and their impact on local communities. The Belong Care Village will be visited by a team of judges on behalf of RICS in February, and Prime will find out if the scheme has successfully secured the top honours or not in May at a special Awards Dinner and Ceremony being held at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
