SoCo Music is a charity focused on supporting wellbeing and personal progression through music in Southampton.
The charity’s core activities include working with young people at risk of offending, supporting children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities, and providing activities for adults who are vulnerable due to substance misuse or poor mental health. They also help creatives connect and collaborate by offering networking opportunities within the local music community.
Funding from the Prime Foundation has allowed the charity to purchase a selection of instruments and equipment enabling the delivery of music making sessions with several different community groups.
This equipment was used for sessions for adults with learning disabilities and adults needing support with their mental health.
“As a small music charity, we are incredibly grateful to the Prime Foundation for its financial support allowing us to buy new instruments and music equipment for our community sessions. To see the joy that new instruments bring to participants is impossible to measure, it gives them an improved sense of self-worth and wellbeing that goes way beyond the music session, impacting their lives and the lives of the people around them.”
