Riverside Elim are a charity in Bewdley, Worcestershire, who run a drop in centre for persons suffering with dementia, their family and carers. They also run a group called Breakfast Buddies where, over breakfast, important topics like bereavement, grief and finances are discussed in an informal setting with the support of a psychologist.
The Prime Foundation were able to fund activities and equipment to expand the sessions on offer, including purchase of a tribal drumming session, a visit by a shetland pony and several games and activity books to encourage having fun while assisting cognitive function.
At the end of 2021, Staff at Prime were invited to attend Riverside Elim’s Christmas lunch and disco. When chatting about the impact of the group, members expressed that the support and regular meetings brought happiness into their lives, giving them the chance to socialise, have fun and celebrate holidays and birthdays surrounded by new found friends. This was particularly impactful following the height of the pandemic – a period where as a community they were more isolated than many.
“I feel safe and happy here, I love it because we have a good laugh.”
