Costa Coffee
Adanac Health & Innovation Campus
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about plans for the development of a coffee shop with a drive-thru facility at the Adanac Health and Innovation Campus. This page is a place to view plans, learn more about the type of building being proposed for the site and to find out how the project is progressing.
Our proposal
Adanac Health and Innovation Campus is a health, research and enterprise hub in the Nursling area of Southampton. The campus masterplan has been jointly developed by University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) and Prime through their Commercial Estates Development Partnership (CEDP).
Together they are looking to invest in Southampton as a region for medical excellence. The new campus provides an opportunity to bring together health and research organisations, educators and businesses to attract the brightest talent to the area and enrich the local economy.
Why is the development needed?
When Adanac Health and Innovation Campus is complete it will house a range of facilities, providing new employment opportunities and a park-and-ride serving UHS. Creating a coffee shop on the campus provides those working there with access to refreshments during the day, lessening the need for additional journeys in and out of the campus at breaktimes and would also cater to UHS staff accessing the park-and-ride at the beginning and end of their shifts. The proposed building would have indoor seating for customer use, some outdoor tables and provide a drive-thru window for customers on-the-go, meeting a range of consumer needs.
The site
Adanac Health and Innovation Campus is split into six plots. The park-and-ride facility is currently in construction on plot one. Costa Coffee would be on plot four. The image above is an indicative drawing that demonstrates how the building would be situated on the land.
The drive-thru coffee shop would be a single storey in height, with parking for 31 cars, including accessible spaces and a waiting bay.
Travel
All car journeys to and from the Health and Innovation Campus travel via Adanac Drive, with Frogmore Lane to the east accessed only by buses serving the park-and-ride.
We expect the majority of Costa Coffee’s customer base to be made up of the staff working at Adanac Health and Innovation Campus, and those travelling to the area to access the park-and-ride facility. Data collected as part of a transport survey demonstrates the proposed facility would have a limited impact on local roadways.
Design
Please look through our gallery to see some examples of how the buildings could look. The design incorporates red and white render, western red cedar cladding and grey, powder coated metal roof and windowpanes.
Landscaping
Soft landscaping will be installed at the boundary of the site with turf borders, ornamental planting and new trees.
